GRAGER, REINKE AND SAUER TOP FIELD AT SHEYENNE RIVER SPEEDWAY OPENER

By Pokey Lukes

Everyone was more than anxious for the season opener at Sheyenne River Speedway in Lisbon after a long cold wet off season.

The WISSOTA Modifieds were at SRS for one of three appearances this year.
#71 Trent Grager

In the WISSOTA Street feature Trent Grager took the lead on the first lap and never gave up the top spot, although he was challenged many times by Royce Jawaski. Jawaski and Duffy Froemke battled several laps for that second spot. Caution came out on lap eight when Kevin Gilinski and Matt Lesmeister got together. On restart it was Grager followed by Jawaski and Froemke. Jawaski challenged Grager several laps for the lead, running side by side, but was never able to complete the pass. Grager held on for the win with Jawaski second followed by Froemke, Ryan Pommerer and Mike Mund,       Ryan Pommerer and Adam Burrows were heat winners.

#71 Nate Reinke
Darren Pfau and Jarrett Carter started on the front row of the WISSOTA Midwest Modified feature. Carter took the early lead with Nate Reinke moving up into second. Carter and Reinke raced side by side for the lead for the first twelve laps until Reinke took the lead. Scot Bintz was running third, closing on the leaders but was unable to get any closer. Travis Sauer started in the back of the pack after rear end problems in the heat. Sauer needed a yellow flag to get closer to the leaders, but it never materialized. All twenty laps were caution free. Carter continued to challenge Reinke for the lead in the closing laps, but had to settle for second. Scott Bintz was third followed by Zach Reinke and Rusty Kollman. Heat winners were Jarrett Carter and Scott Bintz.

#21 Travis Sauer
In the WISSOTA Modified feature the lead changed hands several times in the early laps, with Ross Romdalvik and Jerry Lamb exchanging the lead. On lap three Travis Sauer got around Lamb and Romdalvik for the lead. Mike Stearns also made his way up into second. Caution came out on lap seven for John Nord. On the restart it was Sauer, Sterars and Lamb. As Sauer began to pull away, Lamb, Bobby Sagen and Stearns battled side by side for second. After an early caution, Ryan Mikkelson worked his way back to third but neither him nor Stearns were able to content for the lead. Sauer brought home the checkered flag, followed by Stearns, Mikkelson, Nord and Randy Kline. Sauer was the heat winner.

Only two cars were on hand for the Bomber class.-- Tyler Pfaff and Ethan Barton. Pfaff took home the checkered flag for the feature win./
